These Pumi Puppies Killing Me…

September 13, 2013

The brutal heat weave is gone thanks god and the temperature is back to its seasonal range.  The pups are enjoying the cooler weather and they’ve become much perkier.

Perhaps too perky…

Enjoy!

Labor of Love Day (Puppy Socialization)

August 31, 2013

We have been socializing the pups for a while and today was again a big day of exposure for the Catskill Pumi Heartrobs.  We’ve gotten some local and New jersey visitors. Wo got adult men, women, teenagers and kids.

The Pumi pups checked out all the human visitors and I am happy to report that non of the humans freaked out.  Congratulations parents, each of you did a great job!

Wow…!  Wait a minute…, I would get a speeding ticket for that!   These pups are growing with the speed of mushrooms.  What has been a a nice excuse to hang out and play with the pups, the past month, fast it turned into a demanding job watching these rascals do not get hurt and cleaning them around the clock.

The troop is together figuring out what kind of mischievous things to do next

But honestly, it is a great and rewarding job. I love to see them interacting with each other, and their personality developing.  I hope to get many nice days so we can spend lots of time outside.

Do You Remember Your First Time…?

August 24, 2013

Yesterday, we took the pups outside the first time.  They have been crawling, walking, rolling in the soft grass under the watching eyes of Mama Fruska.

Mama Fruska is making a head count. Is everyone here kids?

Happy 20th day birthday…

August 19, 2013

The pups are 20 days old today, growing big, their eyes are open, moving around and loud. They are a very happy bunch.  Mama Fruska, although, spends less and less time with them, religiously feeds, and cleans every  one of them. Feeding the pups is a virtual riot.

Pleased to Meet You – the Catskill Pumi Pack – A Litter

August 7, 2013

There have been a lively debate about  Hungarian Pumi names on the “Pumilovers” chat  after we posted the newly selected names of the pups.  (I guess, people read the blog…)  Regardless, we’ve decided to go with the tradition and selected Hungarian names for each and everyone. While the middle names that describes the first impression characters of the pups, might be difficult to pronounce, the call names should be simple to learn.

Growing up with three languages in the intersection of at least five-six cultures in Transylvania and Hungary, and after moving to the U.S. and having lived in Chicago and New York City, two multi-culti megalopolises, for many years,  we have been puzzled of the emotions that “the name issue” has created,  especially here,  in the quintessential country of cultural melting pot, the U.S.A….

Anyway, we are pleased to introduce you the newest members of the Catskill Pumi Pack…

Meet the Breed

Wool Roving and PuppiesAugust 6, 2013

We’ve been busy the past few days adoring the pups.  They’ve been growing and four pups have passed the one pound mark while the rest are closing up fast.

"I am here..."Mama Fruska has started becoming restless so yesterday, I let her herding in the stock, in the evening.  She is a great mom and producing lots of milk.

Today was studio photography day for new products to put things on the farm website,  when Laszlo in the middle of the job came up with the idea of photographing the pups in the studio.  We did not think twice and we had lots of fun.  So meet the breed…

The Name Issue…

August 2, 2013 PM/2

And yes, there is the name challenge…  Hungarian breeds, traditionally get funny Hungarian names that tend to irritate the hell out of  American veterinary staffs.  On the top of it, there is the obligation of the “alphabet” litter naming.  One have to be not only original but also have to comply with the alphabet rule/tradition.

So we’ve come up with a loophole. Here are the names;

Red Female, “Apacatancos Anka

Purple Female “ACsecsebecse Ara

Yellow Male “AKulipintyos Ag

Blue Male “APityokas Alpar

Green Male “ACsinnadrattas Acel

Orange Male “AFityfirittyes Asz

Most of these words come from the language of the Transylvanian Hungarian “Szekely” ethnic group.  The call names in Red, however, are pure old Hungarian names.

So follow your favorite pup…

The “Ten – Ounce” Club

August 2, 2013

Barely three days old and keep growing (yes,Yellow PupBlue PupPurple PupOrange PupGreen PupRed Pup you can see the grass grow…) making funny noises, and competing for mom’s milk to be strong, healthy and ready for their new world.

Four out of the six pups passed the ten-ounce weight mark. (actually one pup was born with 10.28oz). They are the founding members of the “Ten-Ounce Club.”

We are looking forward another exciting day with the pups!
